Holzwickede/ Selm/ Lünen. For the first time in the company's history, more than 1,000 young people are currently taking part in a trainee/apprenticeship at REMONDIS and its sister companies SARIA and Rhenus. Today, 393 new trainees and apprenticeships have began their professional career at the company group (2006: 283). This means that a total of 1,304 people are currently doing a traineeship or apprenticeship at one of the companies (2006: 916).
The trainees from the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia were met and welcomed by Andreas Oellerich, Head of Personnel, at REMONDIS' head office in Lünen. Mr Oellerich commented, "Our need for young, well trained and committed staff is growing - and we are using our range of traineeships and apprenticeships to the best of our ability to lay the foundation stone for the future." And this is obviously proving to be a success: this summer alone, three REMONDIS trainees from Lünen, Johanna Spinn, Tobias Icke and Alexander Mischke, were awarded a prize by the Chamber of Commerce in Dortmund in recognition of their excellent final results.
The company group offers 45 different trainee and apprenticeship courses - from industrial clerk, construction mechanic and professional truck driver to chemical laboratory technician. This wide range of professions mirrors the changes that have taken place in the environmental service branch: the days of simply dumping untreated waste in landfill are well and truly over. The modern logistic systems and state-of-the-art sorting and recycling technology used in the branch means there is a need for highly qualified staff. Nowadays, laboratory and process technology are typical areas of work carried out by the water and environmental service branch and energy and incineration technology is becoming more and more important Furthermore, the demand for engineers and international experts is also increasing.
