The projects

The Frankfurt am Main students' union runs, among other things, a Mensa Casino (students' canteen) on the Westend Campus as well as on the Riedberg Campus at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University. Two new wastewater treatment facilities have been built: one for the extension work carried out on the canteen on the Westend Campus as well as one for the newly built Riedberg Campus. The wastewater from the kitchen has a high fat content and must first be pre-treated because of its high levels of lipophile materials before it is discharged into the public sewerage system. The kitchen wastewater is pre-treated using a lime-milk process in order to eliminate the lipophile materials.

 

In August 2008, REMONDIS Aqua was commissioned with the task of operating the wastewater treatment facility at the canteen based on the Westend Campus on behalf of the students' union. Management of the operations began on 01 September 2008. REMONDIS is now ensuring that the canteen wastewater from the students' canteen and the adjoining cafeteria located on the Grüneburgplatz is pre-treated in accordance with all legal regulations.

 

In December 2008, the company was then awarded a contract to operate the wastewater treatment facility at the canteen on the Riedberg Campus. Management of the operations here began on 01 January 2009.

 

 

 

The procedure

Thanks to the operations management concept drawn up by REMONDIS Aqua, it can guarantee that the discharge limits for wastewater being discharged to the municipal sewage treatment plant are adhered to.

 

The lime-milk process that is being used was developed especially for treating food wastewater in very small spaces and REMONDIS Aqua has optimized operations guaranteeing the students' union that it is being operated in the most cost-effective manner possible. The operations concept also involves regular servicing and defined maintenance work to ensure high levels of plant availability. These activities are documented in detail. To ensure that REMONDIS' high quality standards are maintained, its quality management system has been implemented for the business operations.

The "Studentenwerk Frankfurt am Main AöR" provides services for about 55.000 students at five universities in the Rhine-Main area. The task includes the operation of about 50 refectories, cafeterias and cafés as well as the management of 15 apartment buildings.
