BP Gelsenkirchen GmbH, Gelsenkirchen – turning sludge into oil and water.
The project
Within the framework of a company partnership, REMONDIS erected an oil sludge treatment plant at BP Gelsenkirchen’s Horst site. We rendered all of the services involved, from drawing up the concept to project management to financing. The chemo-physical treatment facilities have an annual capacity of 25,000 tonnes. The oil that is recovered flows back into processing, while any wastewater that arises is treated.
The procedure
Before treatment, the liquid and solid elements are first separated from each other. The sedimented sludge is used, among other things, to produce substitute fuels; the liquid elements undergo further treatment stages, including the use of organic separating agents and emulsion separation by means of pH reduction.
